Cefalexin 500 mg each tablet
Cefalexin is a first generation cephalosporine to be used orally, it is a cephalosporium acremonium-derived antibiotics. It inhibits the mucopeptide synthesis of the wall cell of bacteria. Cefalexin is resistant to beta lactamase of staphylococcus but it is sensitive to beta lactamase caused by bacteria of the family of the enterobacteriaceae. It is very effective against gram positive bacteria and moderate effective against some gram negative bacteria. Susceptible bacteria: Staphylococcus intermedius, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus beta hemolítico, Streptococcus spp., Corynebacterium spp., Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae, Listeria monocytogenes, Clostridium spp., Fusobacterium spp., Actinomyces spp., Bacillus spp., Haemophilus spp. y Pasteurella multocida. Menos susceptibles son: Escherichia coli, Salmonella spp., Klebsiella pneumoniae and Brucella spp. It is indicated in dermal infections and soft tissue, respiratory tract infections, otitis and genitourinary infections.
Dosis, vía de administración o método de uso: 
Canines and felines 20 to 30 mg/ kg of weight each 8 to 12 hours. In severe pneumonias and deep pyodermas of dog, dose may be titrated to 40/50 mg/kg of weight each 12 hours. 1 tablet of Cefalexina 500 to treat an animal of 15 kg of weight each 12 hours. 1/2 tablet of Cefalexina 500 to treat an animal of 15 kg of weight each 12 hours. Pharmacology action: cefalexin is a stable acid, appropriate for oral administration, it reaches plasma and tissue levels and presents certain difficult to go through cell membranes and hematoencephalic barrier. It is distributed through most of the tissues and body fluids, and it is an appropriate treatment to fight infectious diseases caused by susceptible germs in dogs and cats. It has a short mean life of approximately 1 to 2 hours, in both species, and it is excreted without changes through urine, which makes it appropriate for the treatment of urinary infections. After oral administration, Cefalexina 500 Ruminal has a bioavailability of about 75% in canines and felines.
Duración del tratamiento: 
Cefalexin is selected in extended treatments in infectious dermatopathies for more than 30 days. In superficial pyodermas, it is suggested to treat for no more than 30 days. In deep pyodermas, treatment may be extended for 60 to 90 days.
Contraindicaciones y precauciones: 
Do not use in animals with hypersensibility history to cephalosporines or to penicillin. Warnings: adverse effects are not usually severe and their frequency is reduced. In certain susceptible animals, it may cause nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea and anorexia. The administration of medication combined with meals may reduce these symptoms. This medication goes through placental membranes, consequently, it cannot be verified if it is safe during pregnancy, but no cases of teratogenicity have been reported. In case of chronic kidney failure, the intervals between doses must be increased, according to the Veterinarian opinion. Intoxication risk is very low, taking into account that DL 50 orally in rats is 5000 mg/kg of weight.
